What is SureSmile, and how is it different than regular braces?

Saturday, April 28th, 2012

You’ve probably heard from friends or family that wearing braces is a long-term commitment, taking more than two years on average. With SureSmile orthodontic treatment, getting braces isn’t what it used to be. In fact, we have our SureSmile numbers! We all have heard the saying that “seeing is believing” and now here are our practice numbers:

We have realized better results than the national average in less than 1 year! Orchin Orthodontics’ patients are saving time in treatment, visits to our office and wire changes (which means less discomfort) just as we promised when we launched SureSmile. Our entire team and patients are thrilled with these findings.

With less overall treatment and fewer visits to our office compared with the national average, SureSmile has all of us smiling more! We welcome you to come for a consultation to find out why we are so excited to share this fantastic technology and orthodontic experience with you. Please give us a call at 202-686-5100.

See you soon!

April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month, from Drs. Orchin & Bailey

Monday, April 2nd, 2012

Visiting your dentist during your orthodontic treatment will not only help keep your teeth and mouth healthy while you have braces, but will also help keep the rest of your body healthy. The fact is, every hour of every day in the U.S., someone dies of oral cancer, which is the sixth-most common diagnosed form of the disease. The five-year survival rate is only 50 percent, and oral cancer is one of the few cancers whose survival rate has not improved. Since April is Oral Cancer Awareness Month, we would like to take this opportunity to remind all of our patients about the importance of maintaining good oral hygiene while you’re undergoing orthodontic treatment.

Your dentist is specifically trained to diagnose, treat, and prevent oral health problems. Please let us now if you have any questions about your oral health during your next adjustment appointment. Take care of your teeth!

Questions, questions…

Tuesday, March 27th, 2012

When you visit Orchin Orthodontics for your initial consultation with Drs. Andrew Orchin and Jill Bailey, you’ll probably have a lot of questions. We want you to be prepared for your appointment and feel in charge of your orthodontic treatment decisions, so keep these questions in mind to ask when you come in for your appointment:

• How long will I have to wear braces?
• Will getting braces hurt?
• Will I have to wear additional appliances to correct jaw problems while I have braces?
• What can I eat when I have braces?
• Are there certain things, like playing sports or playing an instrument, which I won’t be able to do?
• How can I make sure my teeth stay clean and healthy while I have braces?
• How often will I need to come in for appointments?
• How much will my orthodontic treatment cost?

Drs. Orchin and Bailey are here to answer all your questions and concerns, and we’re happy to explain all aspects of your treatment plan and expected outcome. Please feel free to contact our Washington DC orthodontic office, and let us know how we can help you. We look forward to working with you and your family, and giving you the right orthodontic care that makes you smile.

On the importance of visiting your dentist during orthodontic treatment

Monday, March 19th, 2012

Dr. Orchin and Dr. Bailey want to know: Are you brushing your teeth twice a day? If yes, that’s great. But, don’t forget that it’s also important to visit your dentist every six months in addition to your normal orthodontic appointments here at Orchin Orthodontics. Regular dental checkups are important for maintaining good oral health. Your dentist can:

• Check for problems that might not be seen or felt
• Detect cavities and early signs of decay
• Treat oral health problems early
• Show you how to properly brush and floss your teeth

During an oral exam, your doctor will check the health of your mouth, teeth, gums, cheeks and tongue. Checkups will also include a thorough teeth cleaning and polishing. If you have not been to the dentist in the last six months, it’s time for you to schedule an appointment. Or, ask us and we’ll give you a few great references here in the Washington D.C. area.

And, as always, if you have any questions, please feel free to call us or ask us on Facebook!
